Adventures in the OC

First things first. My gallery is up! Not much in there right now, but I’ll periodically put links from here to there so you can get a visual of my life as well as the verbal rant.

Work today, then commute.

On my commute home I did experience something unusual. So I’m driving down Baker past Harbor and I notice there’s this Toyota Tacoma in front of me with something hanging out of the driver’s side window. I get curious and accelerate a bit to check it out. When I get up along side this guy, I can see that it’s his boot, with his foot in it and his leg attached to his foot. Now the leg attached to the foot thing isn’t that unusual, but the leg and foot out of the window as you drive down the street struck me as a bit bizarre.

After I got to Becky’s house, we decided to go out to eat. So Becky’s driving and wants to surprise me on a location for some shopping and dining fun. We’re well into Westminster along Beach and she turns to me and asks if we had passed the 405 yet (for all you non-natives, Westminster is pretty much just North of 405). I respond in the affirmative, so she decides that she’ll get on the 22. I still am in the dark as to our final destination, but I’m thinking maybe the Block.

Well, about the moment we get on the freeway the gas light on Becky’s car lights up. So we decided to get off the freeway and fill ‘er up. So we get off at Brookhurst and head South just in time to see the sign welcoming us to Little Saigon.

But yet, our adventure continues…

Whilst diligently scanning the landscape for a petrol station, we spot the big sign with the red circles. Ever the spontanerian, we stop in for a few things. I bought a couple of shirts, a dvd, and a box of wine. That’s right, a box of wine. Wine in a box. That’s all I’m going to say about the alcoholic beverage that comes in a bag, in a box… That I bought.

Well after the Target rest stop, we were back on the road. We were briefly distracted by an intersection with a red light camera, so we made another wrong turn. So now we’re headed East on Westminster Blvd deep in deep heart of Santa Ana. To make a long story short (too late), We make it back to the friendly, familiar 5 freeway without [much of an] incident.

So now that we’re back on track, Becky reveals her original intent for our destination: The Tustin Marketplace. We’re about there when the gas light reminds us that the cars needs are not being met. So, our quest for food has taken second priority to a new quest for the first esablishment selling anything that will burn in the engine of our car. Luckily (and anti-climactically), we found a Shell.

Now that the car had been fed, it was time for us to be fed. If you’ve never been to The Marketplace, you should know that if there’s one place to end up hungry, this is it. There are about 73,473,146 places to eat. Naturally, with so many choices, we wanted to eat someplace unique, not just Taco Bell or In-n-Out. We decided on Chick-fil-A. I had never heard of it, but it wasn’t bad. It’s like McDonald’s, but they only serve chicken, and it’s good, and the staff was helpful, and it was actually fast, and they had fresh lemonade… okay so it’s nothing like McDonalds.

After the meal Becky and I took the scenic route back home and we’re enjoying classes of boxed wine and doing some work on finding addresses for our Save the Date cards which will go out… eventually.

Enjoy.

I would agree about the boot hanging out the driver’s window while driving…bizarre indeed.
I didn’t realize there were Chick-fil-A’s in CA at all.
I almost ate at one when I was back in Atlanta a couple of years ago, but didn’t know what it was like so opted for some other mall food court place.
You’ll have to take us to the Marketplace next time we come down.
