TiVo

Blogging on my pda again. (birthday’s coming up *cough* *cough* *hack* *wheeze*)

Something is up with the DSL at Becky’s house. The modem just continuiously flashes the ‘Data’ light even when there is no network cable plugged in. I reset it a few times to no avail. Thus the pda blogging.

Bah, ahem. Anyway. Woke up on time this morning. Mostly due to my new alarm clock. Yup, as per my father’s suggestion, I went out and bought a new alarm clock. I actually bought it last week, but I brought it home, plugged it in, and it didn’t work. So I took it back yesterday and got a working model. Quite appropriately, it’s called the NeverLate. It’s pretty awesome. It has seven separate alarms for each day of the week, so I can set each day for a different time if I want to. When I go to bed, no need to reset it, it just rolls over to the next day. Another nice feature is the ‘nap’ function. I punch the nap button and it automatically sets the alarm for twenty minutes (or another pre-determined amount). Yeah, it’s pretty awesome, I told ya.

After my epic awakening, I got to thinking (a dangerous thing to do in the morning). I work in close proximity to CSUF and I noticed traffic was particularly bad when approaching work yesterday. I also recall John mentioning that his classes were starting this week, and I know HIU classes start this week, and I thought I remembered someone say that all of the state schools and community colleges down here are starting together. So, I put two and two together and decided to check online to see if my classes at CSULB did indeed start today. Got on my pda and stumbled across this page on CSULB’s site. At the top it quite clearly says, “August 22: First Day of Fall Semester.” At this point I did what any Kurt Cooke would do in this situation. I panicked.

then I read a bit lower to where it says, “August 29: First Day of Classes”

I drove to work.

I arrived on time (Neverlate ®!). At work today, I started working on the classroom wiring I didn’t get finished last Friday (19 Aug). Matt and I walked through all the classrooms to once again get a bearing of where the current ports are and where the new ports should go. This walkthrough was a bit more productive because there were chairs and a whiteboard in most classrooms so I could get a gauge of where the front of the classroom was and where the ports need to move to. Good news! Of the classrooms that need to be wired, all except one are already in the front of the room, and all except another already have at least one port currently running to it. So that’s good. The bad news is that SGS started classes today, so our time of free-reign in the classrooms has ended. We now must work around the class schedule for room availability.

During my lunch break I stumbled across this website. It’s been driving me nuts. It’s this game called Petals Around the Rose. Five die are rolled, and someone who knows the trick can tell you immediately the number of petals around the rose. The game is to figure out the trick and then point and laugh at people like me who have been racking their brains and still can’t figure it out. Jerks.

After work, drove to Becky’s house where we celebrated. Our reason for celebration? TiVo! Becky’s day off today was spent with the DirecTV installer. He hooked up the TiVo in the living room, and satellite receivers in Becky’s room, Sharon’s room and Sharon’s office. Becky had been fiddling with the TiVo (I’m getting tired of the capital, lowercase alternating, so I’m just going to refer to it as tivo from now on) ever since and had already set it up to record Oprah and Gilmore Girls. When I got home, We watched some random TV (Jeopardy, Friends, The Office, Rock Star:INXS). Man, I tell ya, You’ll never look at TV the same. Pausing, rewinding, fast forwarding commercials. Fantastic.

Becky and I took a short break to eat Quizno’s. Well, we didn’t eat Quizno’s, we ate sadwiches provided to us by the staff of a Quizno’s location. After food, Becky and I broke out and old fashioned board game. Scrabble. Now, Scrabble’s fun, but I’ve always been more of a chess, Trival Pursuit sorta guy. The last time I played scrabble, the highest scoring work I got was cat. I didn’t do so bad this time. I spelled quayle (incidentally, I just looked it up and it’s not valid).

*** Update *** (24 Aug 15:00)
I just figured out that Petals Around the Rose thing! Now I get to point and laugh at all of you that can’t figure it out. *points* haha!

    Hey!

    Mike forwarded me your blog.

I noticed that you make it to work ontime every once in a while. That’s a good improvement! hehehe

I will add you to my list of daily visits (currently at around 40 or so…) so post interesting stuff!

BTW, I figured out the ‘petals’ after four tries. I always knew you were smarter than me, and I guess this proves it!

    ;-)

    Catch ya later!
